A director who explores the marvelous and the imaginary, Hugo Bélanger has been delighting audiences for more than 20 years with shows in which theatricality and inventiveness give way to dreams and poetry.

Artistic director of the Tout à Trac Theater, a company he founded more than 20 years ago, he has created shows for the general public that have left their mark, such as La Princesse Turandot, MÜNCHHAUSEN, imaginary machinery and Around the world in 80 days. His shows have been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, winning numerous awards including a Masque in 2006.

He also teaches in the main professional teaching institutions in Quebec, including the National Theatre School of Canada and the National Circus School. He regularly gives masterclasses around the world.

Cirque du Soleil called on his services to direct the opening show of the Canadian pavilion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai and he created X: The Land of Fantasy, Cirque du Soleil’s first major permanent show in China, in a high-tech theater specially designed for this show, which he wrote and directed.
