Carl-Eric Aubin, PhD, P.Eng. is a full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal, adjunct professor in the Department of Surgery at Université de Montréal and Scientist and Head of the Musculoskeletal Health, Rehabilitation and Medical Technologies Axis at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center.

Dr. Aubin holds both the NSERC-Medtronic Industrial Research Chair in Spine Biomechanics and the Tier-1 Canada Research Chair in Orthopedic Engineering.

Dr Aubin is Chief Executive and Scientific Officer of the Montreal TransMedTech Institute in biomedical engineering and medical technologies, supported by a $35.6M grant from the Canada First Research Excellence Funds and $60M contribution from many partners.

Dr Aubin ia an expert authority in spine biomechanics. His research interests include the study and biomechanical modelling of complex spinal deformities and degenerative pathologies, as well as the evaluation, design and optimization of orthopedic treatments.

The many distinctions he has received during his career include the 2017 Award of Excellence in Innovation from Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center, the 2016 Award of Excellence in Research and Innovation from Polytechnique Montréal and the 2015 Jacques-Rousseau Prize in Multidisciplinarity from the Association francophone pour le savoir (ACFAS).  Dr Aubin has published some 230 articles in scientific journals and books, along with more than 600 abstracts in conference proceedings.  Dr. Aubin has supervised over 95 master and doctoral students, and 26 post-doctoral fellows.
